Mafia armena in Europa

Problemi e scenari

Negli ambienti sportivi, è conosciuto come “King Arthur”.

Insieme a Sirmakes, Mejlumyan ha partecipato all’estrazione dell’oro semi-legale in Karabakh.

L’azienda è registrata in Svizzera. Strettamente associato a Vartan Sirmakes e Valery Mejlumyan.

Fratelli Surik e Suren Khachatryan La famiglia Khachatryan, composta principalmente dai fratelli di Surik Khachatryan e Suren Khachatryan, è sempre stata vicina a Serzh Sargsyan.

Elenchiamo i principali.

Armenian Mafia in Europe: problems and scripts

On April 24, 2021, US President Joseph Biden fulfilled his election pledge by recognizing the Armenian Genocide committed by Turkey in 1915. This decision gave a confidence boost to the members of the Armenian mafia formations in Europe, where mafia is actively operating. Thus, immediately after Biden’s statement, there were a number of attacks on Turkish families in France – in particular, about 40 Armenians attacked the house of a Turkish family in Saint-Die-des-Vosges. They were armed with bats, knives, iron bars, and one of the attackers was carrying a handgun. As a result of this incident alone, 4 people were injured.

The climax of the previous attacks (especially in France, where one of the world’s largest Armenian diasporas operates) occurred at the end of last year during the war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, a disputed territory in the South Caucasus. Now, the statement of Joe Biden has become a new impetus for the escalation of the conflict on the territory of Europe. The war between pro-Turkish and Armenian criminal groups within the EU had caused many problems for Europeans even before this statement – at the moment, however, their security is facing a much more serious threat.

Disruptive behavior of the Armenian mafia structures in Europe

Historically, the majority of Armenians (about 10 million people) live outside their country. Only about 3 million people live in Armenia itself. In 2017, the reasons for this were explained by the well-known French singer of Armenian descent Charles Aznavour, who was the Ambassador of Armenia to Switzerland and UNESCO. According to him, “Armenia is ruled by mafia.”

“Not 3.6 million people, as the authorities claim, but 2.3 million people live in Armenia. And the daily deterioration of the situation in Armenia benefits the rich hooligans and members of the mafia. I know unbearable stories about the mafia of Armenia. Farmers are starving on their land – mafia members and criminals do not let them live, ” said Aznavour, who has repeatedly criticized the Armenian government and the regime for its political and economic failures (https://www.azernews.az/aggression/109993.html). To survive abroad, Armenians have created strong diasporas in almost every country of the European Union. Criminal elements within these diasporas are their distinguishing feature. These diasporas are called “Armenian mafia” within police structures and the scientific community.

The radicalization of the Armenian mafia in Europe has directly affected the life of the EU countries and is already causing significant damage to these countries. This damage is primarily economic and reputational. In addition, the problems caused by Armenian criminal structures call into question the efficacy of the measures that the authorities take in order to establish a multicultural dialogue between different ethnic groups of the population. The hasty departure of tens of thousands of Armenians from the territory of Karabakh threatens to increase the number of diasporas in the EU and to cause another round of criminalization of refugees (https://www.courrierinternational.com/grand-format/cartographie-la-diaspora-armenienne-en-un-coup-doeil).

Back in the summer of 2018, a large-scale special-forces raid was carried out in Spain against the Armenian mafia. According to local media, its goal was to stop the activities of the largest Armenian criminal formations in Europe. More than a thousand police officers took part in the raid on the Armenian mafiosi – the scale of the operation was this huge. Search and detention activities were undertaken in six regions of the country at once. As a result, more than 140 Armenians – suspected of arms and drug trafficking, tobacco smuggling, money laundering and establishing underground betting shops – were detained. The detained Armenian gang had criminal links in France, Belgium, Italy, Lithuania and the United States (https://hetq.am/en/article/90708).

In France, local Armenian diasporas do not identify themselves with the country and refuse to establish strong constructive ties with the local government (https://www.diploweb.com/France-Les-elites-diasporiques-armeniennes-des-acteurs-au-service-de-la-mere-patrie.html). The country is home to more than 600 thousand Armenians, who are grouped around three geographical areas: Paris, Lyon and Marseille. The city of Alfortville is called “little Armenia”: it is home to more than 9 thousand Armenians (in total, the city has 45 thousand inhabitants) (https://www.lepoint.fr/societe/les-armeniens-en-france-22-12-2011-1411512_23.php).

Already in 2018, French law enforcement officers had to engage more than 300 police officers and aviation resources to defeat a criminal syndicate consisting of Armenian and Georgian mafiosi. The operation, codenamed VORS 69-01, took place in Lyon and resulted in numerous arrests. According to the police, the syndicate operated in France and Belgium (https://armenpress.am/eng/news/957759.html).

Today, clashes between Armenian and Turkish criminal groups in France have become commonplace. In Compiegne, the Franco-Turkish association was attacked by the Armenian mafia who tossed in two pig heads on the construction site of the future center of the association – unacceptable behavior for Muslims. The provocation occurred against the backdrop of difficult diplomatic relations between France and Turkey (https://www.ouest-france.fr/hauts-de-france/compiegne-60200/compiegne-deux-tetes-de-sangliers-retrouvees-sur-le-chantier-d-une-association-franco-turque-7038012). It is worth noting that approximately 800 thousand Turkish people and about 50 thousand Azerbaijanis live in France. Clashes between them and the Armenian diaspora can lead to tragic consequences and the death of not even hundreds, but thousands of people.

The statement of the US President Joe Biden about the events of 1915, which the Armenians consider a genocide committed by Turkey, gave a boost of confidence to the members of the Armenian mafia formations in Europe. Immediately after Biden’s statement, there were a number of attacks on Turkish families in France. Thus, about 40 Armenians attacked the house of a Turkish family in Saint-Die-des-Vosges (https://www.dailysabah.com/politics/armenian-mob-attacks-turkish-family-in-france-after-us-statement/news). One of the victims then said that the Armenian had hit the son of his cousin’s family with a car, and a dispute broke out between them. Later that day, Armenians entered the family’s home and attacked them with baseball bats, knives, and iron bars. One of the attackers also had a handgun. Four people were injured in the attack.

In 2017, the journalists of the German TV channel MDR Fernsehen conducted an extensive investigation of the activities of the Armenian mafia in Germany. The quintessence of this investigation was a documentary film detailing the life of criminal structures created by ethnic Armenians. Shootings, arson attacks, beatings of people – this is how German journalists saw the Armenian mafia. According to the authors of the film, the German authorities previously refused to notice this problem. Things changed in October 2017, when Armenians opened fire in the middle of the day in the center of the tourist city of Erfurt. German politicians were worried by the incident, since the capital of Thuringia is a kind of mecca for foreign tourists.

The reaction of the authorities was immediate. Two weeks later, police searched eleven apartments and houses in Thuringia, Saxony and Berlin. Suspects were arrested and large amounts of money, weapons and drugs were seized. The media began to develop an intense interest in the problem. The journalists remembered that in 2014 in Erfurt there was also a shootout with the participation of the Armenian mafia, but at that time the criminals acted at night. The shootout of 2014 is characterized by the filmmakers as the struggle between two Armenian criminal clans from Erfurt and Leipzig. In the summer of 2016, in the same Erfurt, Armenians engaged in a firefight with Moldovan gangsters, having an argument over a 50-kilo bag of marijuana.

The network of the Armenian mafia in Germany expanded and began to cover more areas of activity. In Erfurt alone, the Armenian mafia controlled more than 20 companies and at least 30 restaurants. The Armenians from Erfurt maintained close ties with drug traffickers in Munster. One of them, Vito Zampano, was arrested with a cargo of 130 kilograms of cocaine in Rostock. The drugs were supposed to be received by the Armenian mafiosi.

The Erfurt criminal group of Armenians also operated outside of Germany. Part of the proceeds from the sale of drugs was invested in buying expensive real estate and restaurants in Italy (Rome), San Marino and Portugal.

German journalists complain that the last judgement on the Armenian mafia was delivered five years ago, in 2016, and that since then there has not been a single legally significant action. The powerful Armenian lobby in Germany does not let the investigators to put the leaders of the criminal groups behind the bars. The media, which takes interest in the topic of the Armenian mafia, is under enormous pressure. The TV channel MDR Fernsehen also fell victim to this pressure and was forced to remove the page with the description of the aforementioned film from its website, but a copy of it is still available on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA641m6LELA).

Swedish law enforcement agencies have detected close ties between the Armenian mafia and local Chechen and Albanian criminal structures. Swedish police arrested a gang of heroin and cocaine traffickers; among them were Armenian mafiosi. The gang operated in Albania, Slovenia, Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany. At least 55 times the criminals used cars with non-existent Swedish license plates to transport drugs at (https://exit.al/en/2020/10/09/exit-explains-albanian-crime-in-sweden/).

In Lithuania, the Armenian mafia laundered $ 8.8 billion through the local bank Ukio Bankas. The scheme involved the Russian private bank Troika Dialog, which was headed by the Armenian Ruben Vardanyan (https://hetq.am/en/article/101451).

The Armenian mafia may be involved in the abduction of children in Armenia, their illegal transport to the European Union and further sale on the black market (https://www.dailysabah.com/europe/2019/12/26/armenia-shocked-as-child-selling-scheme-comes-to-light). Brussels has for many years waged an intense and relentless fight against human trafficking – children in particular. In October 2020 alone, 388 suspected child traffickers were detained during the Europol operation (https://twitter.com/Europol/status/1323951348522586113).

As the most popular tool for achieving their goals, the Armenian mafiosi resort to the bribery of local government officials, EU institutions, politicians and public figures. It is known that the Armenian mafia has been heavily corrupting German politicians. In particular, Armenian lobbying organizations actively cooperated with the radical right-wing party – Alternative for Germany – and with other members of the Bundestag (https://en.trend.az/scaucasus/armenia/3403678.html).

The unstable domestic politics of Armenia is today a threat to European investments (https://www.azernews.az/nation/166406.html). In addition, the large-scale fundraising carried out by the Armenian diaspora to help Karabakh, contributes to the outflow of money from the EU (https://mirrorspectator.com/2021/01/03/what-can-the-diaspora-do-now/).

Election results in Armenia as a direct threat to the incomes and peace of the EU citizens

Parliamentary elections are due to be held in Armenia in June 2021. The elections are expected to become the most intense and, possibly, the most scandalous elections in the entire history of the republic, which in 1991 gained independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union. And although Europeans do not follow the domestic political life of distant Armenia, the upcoming elections in this country can dramatically affect the level of the crime situation in the EU countries, as well as the level of real incomes of its citizens.

Armenia’s domestic political life is traditionally closely connected with the life of the diasporas, especially with the Armenian diasporas in the EU countries. The powerful Armenian politicians use this small country mainly for personal enrichment. Realizing that in the event of a political loss, their assets may suffer, they prefer to keep their savings in European banks. A significant proportion of these assets is dirty or laundered money of questionable origin. The goal of the Armenian criminal structures in Europe is usually to legalize this money, relying on their own resources and corrupt ties to the institutions of the EU countries.

It is noteworthy that the basis of the Armenian mafia in Europe is the clan of the former President and Prime Minister of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. This man once usurped power and reigned supreme over Armenia for 11 years. In 2018, Sargsyan was once again appointed to the post of head of the Armenian government which resulted in major protests of the population; the main leader of the protests was the opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan. In April 2018, being under pressure from the protesters, Sargsyan was forced to resign.

The deposed Serzh Sargsyan abandoned some of his initiatives in Armenia and began to work more actively in Europe. “Work” in this case refers to the rapid enrichment of Sargsyan and his entourage. The accession to power of Pashinyan’s team crumbed many deals that for many years had been yielding huge profits to Sargsyan and his people. That is why Sargsyan shifted his focus to European countries, where, thanks to the impressive size of the Armenian diaspora, he was able to form criminal and semi-criminal structures under the leadership of his people.

At the behest of Sargsyan, they corrupted local officials, built schemes for illegal enrichment, and also involved many ethnic Armenians in their activities, turning these people (who became citizens of the European Union a long time ago) into agents of influence and criminal accomplices. Today, the clan of Sargsyan relies on the power of dozens of Armenian criminal groups in the EU countries and plans to return to power in Armenia after the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 20, 2021.

The upcoming elections in Armenia will determine the fate of the country, as well as the fate of numerous Armenian diasporas in Europe. In 2020, Armenia lost the war over Karabakh to Azerbaijan. The defeat still isn’t a part of the national consciousness of the Armenians, including the leaders of the Armenian criminal groups in Europe, who are not able to accept the clear fact of defeat. Being unable to take revenge on Azerbaijan for the lost territories, the bosses of the Armenian mafia in the EU countries have become more active in criminal wars for the redistribution of spheres of influence. These actions cause direct damage to the economy of the EU countries, which necessarily affects the income of every EU citizen.

Scope of action and main actors of Armenian criminal groups

To understand the scale of the problem, it would make sense to present a list of the main members of the clan of former Prime Minister of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan – perpetrators of criminal acts.

Vartan Sirmakes Vartan Sirmakes is called the godfather of the Armenian mafia in Switzerland, where he has lived since the 1990s. In 1998, together with the watch manufacturer Frank Muller, he set up the company Franck Muller; in 2003, Muller sold his stake to the Armenian entrepreneur and went out of business. Sirmakes is also the President of ArmSwissBank and at the same time the Consul General of Armenia in France (Marseille). He was appointed to this position by Serzh Sargsyan. However, after the “velvet revolution”, Sirmakes remained in his post and supported Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Despite the obvious betrayal of Sargsyan, Sirmakes is a full-fledged member of his clan and has long enjoyed the patronage of Sargsyan.

Sirmakes has an estimated net worth of 225 million Swiss francs, he owns 7 major brands and manages 14 production units throughout Switzerland. In Geneva alone, Sirmakes employs more than 800 people, among whom a significant majority are members of the Armenian diaspora. Sirmakes is considered the main financial donor of the diaspora (and thus of the Armenian mafia) in Switzerland.

Kaspar Karampetian The godfather of the Armenian mafia in Belgium, Kaspar Karampetian also has Greek citizenship (born in Athens). Karampetian is the head of the public organization European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy. Because of this status, he lobbies for the interests of the Armenian diaspora in the EU countries, as well as in international organizations (including through the bribery of European officials). Karampetian is operating the diamond business and has close ties with Vartan Sirmakes.

Karampetian came up with and realized an interesting scheme of illegal diamond business. From the conflict regions of Africa into Belgium, he smuggled oblong multi-colored diamonds, which were then cut. And after that, the diamonds obtained were certified based on a previously tested corruption scheme and were delivered to the shelves of brand boutiques in Europe. Karampetian used part of his income to support the pro-Armenian regime in unrecognized Karabakh, as well as to finance radical Armenian organizations and, possibly, terrorist groups.

With the same money, Karampetian created the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy, which acts in cooperation with the Foreign Intelligence Service of Armenia. In any case, its cooperation with the National Security Service of Armenia at the time when Serzh Sargsyan was in power, was established.

On March 15, 2017, at the fashionable restaurant Le Bartholdi Pub in Strasbourg, Karampetian gathered many famous European deputies at the table. A little later, all of them appeared in the control zone of the Armenian army, greeting the leaders of unrecognized Karabakh. It was Karampetian who accompanied all the European deputies and Belgian politicians who visited Karabakh at the time when it was controlled by the pro-Armenian regime.

The Azerbaijani media got hold of a list of names of MEPs who were closely connected with Karampetian. The material caused a scandal. According to it, the representatives of Karampetian presented Eleni Theocharous with an expensive necklace and a box with a gold bar; “affectionate” Frank Engel was “presented” with a beautiful girl Tatev Manukyan; homosexual Peter Omtzicht was introduced to gay Karen Ohadzhanyan.

Thus, Karampetian, having close ties with a huge number of MEPs, promotes the interests of Yerevan and expects to become an influential “gray cardinal” in Armenia in the near future.

Tigran Arzakantsyan Tigran Arzakantsyan is considered one of the main representatives of the Armenian mafia in France. Until 2007, he was a member of the Armenian Parliament, where he was a member of the Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs. He was a member of the Republican Party of Armenia and had long-standing friendly relations with Serzh Sargsyan.

In Armenia, the former politician is called the “cognac king”. In 1998, with the direct participation of Arzakantsyan, the production of cognac under the Great Valley brand was established at one of the oldest cognac factories in Armenia – Artashat. Arzakantsyan became widely known during his conflict with the management of the Yerevan Brandy Factory, which was sold to the French Pernod Ricard company for distilled beverages in 1998.

Arzakantsyan was a frequent visitor to Moscow casinos – he also did business in Russia. In March 2006, the businessman was attacked in Moscow at the Kutuzov-hall casino. As the press service of the Great Valley company later stated, the deputy was attacked by more than 20 armed casino guards, who inflicted serious injuries on him and stole valuable things: a Frank Muller watch (the co-founder of this company is the previously mentioned Armenian millionaire Vartan Sirmakes) and a mobile phone worth $60 000. At the same time, according to the version published by a number of media, Arzakantsyan staged his own beating in order not to return a large debt to the casino.

In September 2007, the businessman was attacked in the casino Metropol; according to the investigation, Arzakantsyan visited the Metropol more than 30 times that year. Today Arzakantsyan has a significant share in the cognac business in France and in Russia. He mainly conducts business in France, while being one of the largest gold miners in his native Armenia.

According to Armenian social activists, Arzakantsyan owns a three-story mansion located in the suburbs of Paris, in the area where reach people live. The villa is called Hermitage. The houses located there are estimated by French real estate agencies at €20-100 million.

The journalists managed to find out that the owner of the Hermitage villa is the Almaz company, registered in the name of Arzakantsyan. The company with a capital of €1.48 million was established in 2008. It is noteworthy that the declarations of Tigran Arzakantsyan have no indication of the fact that he purchased real estate in France. Consequently, he hid his property from the Armenian tax authorities. Arzakantsyan himself claims that the luxury villa belongs to his unemployed cousin. In April 2021, the media reported that Arzakantsyan intended to return to big politics.

Arthur Abraham Arthur Abraham is a famous German boxer of Armenian descent. In sporting circles, he is known as “King Arthur”. Abraham is one of the central figures of the Armenian mafia in Germany. In particular, he, along with other 15 Armenians, was involved in the famous shootout in 2014 in front of a casino in Erfurt. According to the German TV channel ARD, Abraham is one of the pillars of the Armenian mafia in Germany. He owns a real estate business.

Brothers Karo and Coco Murat Brothers Karo Murat and Koko Murat, as well as Arthur Abraham, are also German boxers of Armenian descent. Their names are known to the general public not because of their sporting success, but because of the media reports on skirmishes with the German Turkish people, in which the brothers were involved. The Murat brothers are being investigated by the German police as the leaders of one of the most radical groups in Europe from among the nationals of the former Soviet Union.

Karo Murat was investigated for the case of a shootout in front of a casino in Erfurt – the shootout that involved 15 more people originating from Armenia. German investigators suspected Murat of participating in a shootout in front of the gambling club. Right after the charges were filed, his brother Koko Murat said that he [Koko Murat] was the one who went to the casino that day. However, investigation showed that Karo Murat’s mobile phone and his personal car were in the area of the shooting that day.

Valeri Mejlumyan Valeri Mejlumyan is the president of the Vallex Group company and a Presidium Member of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia. Mejlumyan is a close friend and a partner of Vartan Sirmakes. Together with Sirmakes, Mejlumyan participated in semi-legal gold mining in Karabakh. Mejlumyan was the one who came up with and carried out the schemes of money laundering through offshore companies in Liechtenstein and Cyprus.

Arthur Mkrtumyan Arthur Mkrtumyan is the director of Base Metals, a subsidiary of Vallex Group, of which Mkrtumyan is the Vice president. The company is registered in Switzerland. He is closely related to Vartan Sirmakes and Valeri Mejlumyan. At the moment, Mkrtumyan, along with Sirmakes and Mejlumyan, are wanted on an international arrest warrant on charges of illegal business activities by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan.

Artashes Geghamyan and his son Armen Geghamyan Artashes Geghamyan is a member of the Armenian Parliament. His son Armen Geghamyan studied in London while developing grey schemes at the Armenian Customs. The Geghamyan family has a close relationship with Serzh Sargsyan. As the ruler of Armenia, Sargsyan was once forced to justify Armen Geghamyan’s corrupt practices at the Armenian Customs to journalists. Armen Geghamyan currently has Bulgarian citizenship. He also owns a number of assets, bought with money of questionable origin, in Bulgaria.

Hovik Abovyan Hovik Abovyan was the governor of the Tavush region of Armenia when Serzh Sargsyan was in power. Prior to his appointment as governor, Abovyan served as the head of Gugark Customs. Abovyan transferred the money gained through corrupt practices to the EU countries. He owns a number of assets in the Czech Republic, including a dubious hotel business that was corruptly obtained. Abovyan was dismissed by the Pashinyan government.

Brothers Surik and Suren Khachatryan The Khachatryan family, consisting primarily of siblings Surik Khachatryan and Suren Khachatryan, has always been close to Serzh Sargsyan. In 2015, this closeness resulted in Sargsyan’s decision to pardon Surik’s nephew Mias Khachatryan, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for murder. Before the deposition of Sargsyan, the Khachatryan family was engaged in a corrupt business in Armenia. Now the Khachatryan brothers are fleeing from prosecution in France.

Mikael Minasyan Mikael Minasyan was assigned important posts in the business empire of Serzh Sargsyan. It was Sargsyan who appointed Minasyan as Armenia’s ambassador to the Vatican. Now Minasyan is no longer an ambassador. He sells antiques, luxury items, and cultural goods, including those obtained by illegal archaeologists, personally or by proxy. He is active on the black market, where he buys and sells antiques and jewelry.

The Aghasaryan Brothers Little is known about the Aghasaryan brothers. Under the rule of Serzh Sargsyan, they acted as proxies for the conclusion of transactions on the registration of companies in the EU countries for officials of the Armenian government. The Aghasaryan brothers try to keep their affairs secret and do not talk to the press or the public. Only a few members and ex-members of the clan of the former ruler of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, are presented. These members of the Armenian diaspora constitute criminal structures in the EU countries.

The strengthening of the Armenian mafia structures and the dangers it creates for the EU

The sharp radicalization of the Armenian mafia structures on the territory of the European Union is clearly a matter of grave concern for both governments and citizens. The price the European Union may have to pay due the radicalization mentioned is heavy, thus, the consequences should be addressed separately. Here are the main ones.

Reputational losses of EU governments

Тhe inability of the EU governments to curb the increased activity of the Armenian mafia structures may negatively affect the public confidence in the authorities. This, in turn, may affect the results of local government elections and bring to power radicals and nationalists who will resort to populism, promising to deal with the Armenian mafia with tough measures.

The growing influence of the Armenian mafia on the European establishment

The radicalization of Armenian criminal groups may lead to an inability of an increasing number of officials and civil servants in the EU countries to resist the corruption pressure. Possible decisions of the authorities in the interests of one of the ethnic groups at the expense of other groups can cause social discontent and lead to a global political crisis.

Foreign policy tensions

Representatives of the Armenian mafia structures, after the defeat of Armenia in the Karabakh war, are taking revenge on the European governments for what they consider to be insufficient support (or complete lack of it) in relation to the Karabakh issue. European countries may be involved in major foreign policy conflicts with a number of countries that do not support the official position of Yerevan. These conflicts can have a negative impact on trade and diplomatic relations, as well as on other forms of cooperation already established between the countries.

 Threats to the civilian population

The observed increase in the confrontation between Armenian, Turkish and other criminal groups can lead to dramatic consequences for the residents of the EU countries. Bystanders may be injured in other possible shootings, which usually take place in an urban environment. The more often such criminal battles occur, the greater is the risk for the civilian population of the EU to become victims.

Threat of terrorist attacks

There is a great risk that Armenian criminal groups will launch a series of terrorist acts in the EU countries in order to draw the attention of the international community to Armenia’s internal problems. Of course, such a method is unacceptable and it also cannot be called effective, but it has a historical background.

In 1977, Armenian nationalists conducted a series of terrorist attacks in Moscow, setting off bombs in the metro and in shops; 7 people were killed, 37 were injured. The terrorists were arrested and executed. Before they were executed, they made political demands. There is no reason to believe that such a practice of terrorist attacks has been put to an end, especially given that the Armenian mafiosi in European countries have experience in fighting in the Karabakh conflict and keep illegal firearms and explosives.

Possible inter-ethnic clashes

The actions of the Armenian criminal groups cannot but cause an increase in hostility in European societies towards all ethnic Armenians living in the territory of the European Union. It is certainly wrong to equate them with the Armenian mafiosi. However, public attitudes do not always follow the logic of reason and can easily change under the influence of radical politicians and public figures. Possible disturbances in the Armenian neighborhoods will raise doubts about the ability of European governments to keep the situation under control and will shake the population’s faith in democratic institutions.

Conclusion

PZ 400:06 Inv 4214
Viktor Vasnetsov: Warrior at the Crossroads, 1882
The Russian Museum

The primary problem that the radicalization of the Armenian mafia structures in the EU countries leads to is a threat to the security of Europeans: regular clashes of ethnic criminal groups will sooner or later claim victims; Armenian or Turkish migrants will not be the only ones to suffer.

The increased activity of the Armenian mafia on the territory of the EU is a great challenge for European democracy, as well as for the economy of the Union. The risks mentioned earlier are enormous; we cannot allow the situation develop that way. Brussels, as well as the governments of all EU countries, must immediately respond to the current situation.

The authorities of European countries should pay attention to high-powered Armenian businessmen, who help criminal groups to survive in the fight against law enforcement agencies. Members of the public can and should demand from the authorities more effective measures to combat Armenian and other ethnic criminal structures. The activities of the latter cause enormous damage to the EU countries, which ultimately affects the well-being of every EU citizen.

Sanctions against the leaders of the Armenian criminal groups in Europe can become an effective tool in the fight against them. In addition, it makes sense to consider the introduction of personal sanctions against those Armenian politicians who maintain ties with the above-mentioned mafia structures and individuals in the EU countries.

This especially applies to the clan of the former ruler of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. Blocking the accounts of the members of the Sargsyan’s clan in European banks may deprive the Armenian mafia in the EU countries of financial support.
